2009 Infiniti EX35

2009 Infiniti EX35 Combines Sports Coupe Style and Performance with Sedan Convenience and SUV Cargo Area

The 2009 Infiniti EX35 is one of those rare vehicles that is both exception and exceptional. Like its legendary stablemate, the dramatic Infiniti FX, the EX combines an inspiring blend of style and performance, power and fuel efficiency, refinement and aggressiveness, intimacy and exhibitionism.

2009 Infiniti EX35: A luxury crossover that is uniquely personal, yet turns heads when unleashed among the tide of less refined and less innovative competitors2009 Infiniti EX35: A luxury crossover that is uniquely personal, yet turns heads when unleashed among the tide of less refined and less innovative competitors

“The EX perfectly expresses the Infiniti philosophy of ‘Inspired Performance’ with its sports coupe style and sedan/SUV convenience,” said Ben Poore, vice president, Infiniti Business Unit. “For example, its 297-horsepower V6 offers more power than its closest competitors, along with better fuel economy. And with the revised content for 2009, EX is even stronger this year than last – which, among other accolades, saw it named the ‘Highest Rated Premium Vehicle in Initial Quality’* by J.D. Power and Associates.”

The EX is rewarding and reinvigorating – and refined for the new model year with additional standard equipment and revised optional package content. For 2009, the second year of EX production, the EX35 Base model now features standard leather-appointed seating, RearView Monitor, rear HVAC vents and polished aluminum roof rails. The EX35 Journey model adds a standard 6-disc CD autochanger, power tilt/telescoping steering column, coat hanger on the driver’s headrest and Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control.

New or revised packages include an Around View Monitor (AVM) Package, which utilizes four small front, side and rear-mounted cameras to give the driver a “top-down view” of the outside of the vehicle and help reduce blind spots when parking.

Other available packages include the Technology Package, with an advanced Lane Departure Prevention system (LDP), Intelligent Cruise Control (Full Speed Range), Distance Control Assist (DCA) and Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA) with Forward Collision Warning; a Premium Package; a Bose® & Navigation Package; and an 18-inch Wheel Package.

Coupe-Inspired Exterior, Elegant Interior

The EX35’s layout combines the look and feel of a luxury coupe and an SUV’s flexibility. Its sporty proportions, including a long hood, short front and rear overhangs, rearward cabin and smooth coupe-like roofline, gives the EX excellent around town maneuverability – while the wide rear hatch and low load floor make it a versatile performer for everyday and weekend use.

EX’s exterior includes many signature Infiniti touches, including a double-arch grille, large L-shaped headlights with available xenon headlights with Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), integrated fog lights, distinctive LED taillights and “dynamic arch” profile. Other exterior features include a high-mounted rear hatchback spoiler, chrome-finished dual exhaust tips, an available power tilt/sliding moonroof with one-touch activation and standard roof rails. EX35 also features a standard puddle lamp integrated in the driver’s side-view mirror as part of the hospitality lighting concept.

Eight exterior colors are offered: Moonlight White, Liquid Platinum, Platinum Graphite, Black Obsidian, Scarlet Silver, Tidewater, Blue Slate and Dark Currant – each incorporating Scratch Shield, a special “self-healing” clearcoat paint, which is designed to maintain its gloss-level over time.

Like all Infiniti vehicles, the EX was conceived to offer a reinvigorating and engaging interior environment, one that is both indulgent and inspiring. The driver-focused “wave-inspired” cabin layout features an Infiniti signature “double-wave” instrument panel, easy-to-read high-contrast gauges with white-and-violet illumination and hospitality lighting with a pin LED light mounted over the center console and Infiniti-signature analog clock.

The instrument panel also features a 7-inch color display with Infiniti controller for the trip computer and additional vehicle information, including the available Infiniti Hard Disk based Navigation System with 9.3GB Music Box hard drive for music storage and playback. Other technology systems include an available Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System, standard Infiniti Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition and XM® Satellite Radio (XM® subscription required, sold separately).

The EX interior is offered with standard leather-appointed seating surfaces, available in four colors – Graphite, Stone, Wheat and Chestnut. The EX Base models features aluminum trim, while EX Journey models offer aluminum trim. There is also a leather and aluminum shift knob, and leather-wrapped steering wheel with controls for audio and cruise control. An 8-way power driver’s seat with 2-way manual lumbar support and a 4-way power passenger’s seat are standard. A driver’s seat memory system is also offered, along with available heated front seats and 8-way power front passenger’s seat. Also available is a 60/40 split power-folding 2nd row seat (operated from the front or the hatch area).

The EX’s available Bose® Premium Audio System includes a Burr-Brown 24-bit DAC, 11 speakers (including 2 subwoofers), AM/FM/CD in-dash changer and Interface System for iPod®. The advanced Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System, included with the Bose® audio system as part of the Bose® & Navigation Package, features Voice Recognition (VR) for HVAC, audio and navigation and XM NavTraffic® with Real-Time Traffic Information (XM® subscription required, sold separately).

Advanced Platform and Powertrain

Under the EX35’s dramatic body is an equally advanced platform and powertrain based on the latest Infiniti performance technology. Its FM platform provides the same high levels of handling precision and balance as it does for the Infiniti M, FX and G Coupe and Sedan.

Every 2009 Infiniti EX35 comes standard with a fourth-generation VQ35HR 3.5-liter V6 engine, rated at 297 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque, and a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, DS sport mode with Downshift Rev Matching (DRM), and Adaptive Shift Control.

EX fuel economy is rated at 17 mpg City/24 mpg Highway for the rear-wheel drive models and 16 mpg City/23 mpg Highway for EX all-wheel drive models.

Superb handling is provided by a subframe-mounted independent front double-wishbone suspension with aluminum-alloy upper and lower links, high-performance dual-flow pass shock absorbers and stabilizer bar. The rear suspension is an independent multi-link design with aluminum-alloy upper and lower links and axle housing, high-performance dual-flow pass shock absorbers and stabilizer bar.

Also standard are 3-point ALR/ELR seat belts (driver’s side ELR only) and front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters and adjustable upper anchors, front seat Active Head Restraints and the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system for the rear outboard seating positions. The 2009 EX also features advanced Zone Body Construction with front and rear crushable zones to help disperse crash energy around the passenger compartment.

Models and Packages

The 2009 Infiniti EX35 is available in four models: EX35 RWD, EX35 AWD, EX35 RWD Journey and EX35 AWD Journey. EX35 Journey models include power slide/tilt moonroof with one-touch activation, auto-dimming inside mirror with electronic compass, auto on/off headlights, 6CD autochanger, power tilt/telescoping steering column, heated front seats, coat hanger on headrest, Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control (ATC), heated outside mirrors and wood interior trim.

EX Journey models are also available with a Premium Package, which adds a memory and position synchronization system for the driver’s seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors; 8-way power front passenger’s seat; 2-way driver’s seat power lumbar support; xenon headlights with AFS, HomeLink® Universal Transceiver; premium stitching on the meter hood; and power remote rear seat.

“The Infiniti EX is an extraordinary vehicle, providing a personal reward for those who drive and own it,” said Poore. “With power and agility available on demand, it’s a perfect fit for buyers looking to add a little excitement in their everyday lives.”

2010 Volkswagen Polo

Up to 20 percent better fuel economy points the way to the future with 3.6 liter fuel consumption and 96 g/km CO2 set new benchmark for five-seaters

At the 2009 Geneva Motor Show at the beginning of March, the 2010 VW Polo debuted with a completely new look and technology. After its celebrated world premiere, this latest Volkswagen is now entering the market. On the safety side the Polo has ESP plus Hill Hold Control standard combined with significantly improved crash properties.

2010 Volkswagen Polo: Polo brings new dimension of quality to the supermini class with five new engines; TSI and Common Rail TDI in the Polo for the first time2010 Volkswagen Polo: Polo brings new dimension of quality to the supermini class with five new engines; TSI and Common Rail TDI in the Polo for the first time

Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn: "The new Polo fulfills the highest standards of the automotive present and goes a step further. Its extremely efficient drive technologies, best possible active and passive safety systems, a level of quality never before attained in this car class and impressive design all set new benchmarks in the fifth generation of this bestseller that has sold over 10.6 million units." The Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Group continues: "The Polo is clearly the right car at the right time, and that is born out by the latest advance sales figures. Here we have created a Volkswagen that takes the unparalleled success of the Golf concept and effectively transfers it to an independent segment – the Polo class."

"It is already clear that the Polo will redefine the benchmarks in its class, especially when it comes to preserving natural resources," says Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management, Volkswagen Brand, and responsible for technical development. Dr. Hackenberg continues: "As a 90-PS TDI with a BlueMotionTechnology package, the new Polo moves with 3.6 liter fuel consumption. Even our new 105-PS TSI only consumes 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers. We have succeeded in improving fuel economy between 8 and 20 percent over the entire gasoline engine lineup, and between 5 and 15 percent among the diesels. And that is really good."

Another key fact: No other car in its class has such a mature and high-end image as the new Polo. Comfort, quality and safety have all taken a considerable leap forward. One example: among other things, the Polo was specifically designed to attain the recently established, stricter and more comprehensive, 5-star EuroNCAP rating. The greater structural rigidity of the Polo’s bodyshell contributes to these results. In the footwell area alone, intrusion – related to the car body’s resistance to deformation in a frontal crash – was lowered by 50 percent! In the case of a side impact, the intrusion value was reduced by 20 percent.

Standard equipment for safety

In addition, the European version of the Polo now being presented is equipped with standard ESP electronic stabilization program with Hill Hold Control, and it has a highly effective network of airbags on board, including combined head-thorax airbags (integrated in the front seatbacks), belt tensioners and belt force limiters plus seatbelt warning indicator and head restraints that counteract the risk of whiplash injury (both front seats), three rear head restraints and Isofix preparation for child seats.

Volkswagen has rearranged the line structure of its equipment lines since the previous model: "Trendline" still represents the entry-level variant, and "Comfortline" still refers to the mid equipment level. New to the lineup – and bringing the Polo in line with the Golf here – is the top version called "Highline". Convenience features that are already standard features of the Polo Trendline include: electro-hydraulic power steering, power windows in front, central locking, cargo area lighting and tie-down points, warning buzzer if lights are left on, height adjustment for driver’s seat, illuminated make-up mirrors in the sun visors and green tinted windows. Meanwhile, "Titanium black" trim and "Metric" fabric give the interior a perceptibly high-end ambiance.

Individually combinable high-tech features

Options that Polo drivers will be able to order on their new Volkswagen include static turning lights integrated in the front fog lights, daytime running lights (from "Comfortline" up), side curtain airbags (head airbag system for front and rear passengers), radio and radio-navigation systems and an integrated hands-free telephone system. A panorama sunroof and bi-xenon headlights will follow at a later time.

Weight down, fuel consumption down

Despite significant improvements in all aspects of the car, the Polo’s body weight has been reduced by 7.5 percent. Introduction of new TDI and TSI engines, and the 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG), has resulted – as described by Dr. Hackenberg – in considerable improvement in fuel economy and reduced emissions over a wide range of engine power outputs. An excellent example here is the new 1.2 TSI. This turbo-charged four-cylinder direct injection gasoline engine produces 77 kW / 105 PS, yet it consumes just 5.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (129 g/km CO2); this is 20 percent less than on the equivalent model of the previous generation!

Five new engines for the Polo

In total, seven different engines will be offered on the new Polo in its first year – four gasoline and three diesel – spanning a power range from 44 kW / 60 PS to 77 kW / 105 PS. Five of these engines are entirely new or are being used for the first time in the Polo.

The new engines include all three TDIs (turbo-diesel direct-injection); thanks to common rail technology implemented for the first time in the Polo, these engines are both efficient and refined. The potential in the TDI engines is clearly evident in the example of the Polo 1.6 TDI with 66 kW / 90 PS: when combined with a "BlueMotion Technology package", its average fuel consumption of 3.6 liters per 100 kilometers and 96 g/km CO2 makes it the most fuel efficient and lowest emitting five-seater diesel in the world. The "BlueMotion Technology package" and 90-PS TDI may be ordered on the "Comfortline" and "Highline" equipment versions.

Market launch starts at end of June

Production of the five-door Polo already started at the end of March. This will be followed, starting in the last week in June, by the market launch of the visually and technically advanced new edition of the million unit bestseller in Germany. Just two weeks later, thanks to an ambitious logistics plan, Volkswagen will begin selling the car across mainland Europe, and soon Polo engines will be revving up across all continents.

The Polo on the iPod and iPhone

Volkswagen is very much targeting the generation of "mobile gamers" with the new Polo: in parallel to the world premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show, a Polo racing game for iPhone and iPod touch was launched on March 3, 2009 in Apple App Stores. After just two weeks of this innovative type of marketing, Volkswagen rocketed to number 1 on download charts in 39 countries and even climbed into the top ten on US download charts. So, along with traditional print advertising and media spots, in parallel Volkswagen is counting on interactivity via iPhone and iPod touch for the new Polo. And with success: more than 1.4 million downloads in the Apple App Store within four weeks are proof of the enthusiastic wave that the new Polo racing game "Volkswagen Polo Challenge" has triggered around the globe.

The "Volkswagen Polo Challenge" is an interactive racing game that takes place in brilliant 3D quality on eight highly detailed and accurately reproduced race courses. In addition, the download contains key information on the new Polo. Those who would also like to try out the Polo in reality can look up the nearest Volkswagen dealer within the game and be navigated there.
